Definition: plug-in free

A website that does not require a browser plug-in in order to view some or all of its content. For example, in the past, many websites contained Flash videos, and a Flash plug-in was required in the browser to play them. Users prefer plug-in free solutions for several reasons. When a new computer is purchased, the necessary plug-ins have to be installed. Users may come across a website that requires a newer version of the plug-in, and whenever the browser is updated, an existing plug-in may not be compatible.

HTML5 to the Rescue!
One of the major features of the HTML5 Web page format is that it natively supports most of the functions that normally require browser plug-ins. See browser extension and HTML5.
